What is Scoold?

Scoold Q&A

Scoold is a Q&A and a knowledge sharing platform for teams. The project was started back in 2008 and initially released in 2012 as social network for schools inspired by Stack Overflow. In 2017 it was thoroughly refactored, repackaged and open-sourced.

Scoold can run on any infrastructure, whether it’s a public cloud or on-premises. It’s a lightweight Java web app, connected to a scalable backend called ↗ Para. All the heavy lifting and backend operations are handled by Para which works with any of the popular databases out there. Scoold is written in Java with and has well-organized code base, that is easy to read and maintain, even by junior developers.

What can you do on Scoold? It implements most the Stack Overflow features — you can ask and answer questions, upvote and downvote posts, earn badges and reputation. Each edit creates an new revision, making it easy to follow the history of edits. The posts can be written in Markdown, which is then rendered by Para to HTML. The reputation system is simple but effective. People are awarded reputation points for good questions and answers, as well as various badges for their achievements on the site.

What problem does it solve? Scoold is used to organize and consolidate internal knowledge within teams of any size. It helps with support questions, internal onboarding, works well as a knowledge hub or a clien-facing support forum. Scoold is a flexible and versatile application, with a focus on quick access to the content that matters.

In 2018, we announced Scoold Pro, the paid version of Scoold. It offers premium features, suitable for teams and organizations of any size.

In 2020, we rolled out our own Scoold Pro hosting service - Scoold Cloud. It allows you to easily deploy a Scoold Pro server in the cloud. Scaling and upgrades are handled by us, leaving you to focus on your content and community.
